Kansas Broadband Internet provides high speed Internet service via a state-of-the-art wireless broadband system. Unlike DSL or cable modem we do not depend on the availability of legacy telephone or cable TV infrastructure. Unlike satellite, our network does not suffer from weather outages or the performance issues and delays associated with a 23,000-mile path up and down.
A small 3” x 11” antenna mounted on your roof connects directly to one of our base stations located within a distance of 10 miles. Depending your distance to the base station we may use an 18” reflector to boost the signal. The base stations are in turn connected to a high-speed ethernet-over-fiber connection to the Internet. The air-link between the customer and the base station is a proprietary system that uses authentication and encryption to protect against rogue users and attackers.
The antenna connects to a broadband router via a standard CAT 5 ethernet cable. An AC adapter powers the antenna over the CAT 5 cable. An optional surge suppressor and grounding is available to protect your equipment from lightning or static discharges.
The router acts as a firewall to protect the customer’s home network from Internet attackers and is an administrative demarcation point that allows customers to build their home network independently. Kansas Broadband believes that home networking is an area of tremendous innovation that we wish to support. Customers do not pay extra for multiple computers and are free to use the Internet however they like, subject only to their own restrictions.
NEW 4G WIMAX (now available in our Saline County market)
Kansas Broadband Internet has accelerated the deployment of 2.5Ghz WIMAX technology in the markets we service. WIMAX gives us the ability to allow for more efficient bandwidth use, interference avoidance, and is intended to allow higher data rates over longer distances.
WIMAX client receivers will receive a signal from the base station located on a tower, water tank, or other location that provides the heigth needed to reach the most people in the coverage area. One of the benefits of WIMAX is that direct line-of-site to the tower is no longer an important factor.
In the near future, customers utilizing WIMAX will be able to purchase a card for their laptop or other mobile device that allows them to access the Internet using their personal account any where they go within the coverage area.
